Graffiti is the expression of
artists who want to give a message for the society. In some cases that message
could be pacific or violent. There are many expression around this kind of art.
In fact, Graffiti is form or way of communication in which you can read the
things seeing the pictures. Latin America is a continent which have many graffiti
cultures. Now I am going to say some aspect that how countries as Argentina,
Colombia, Honduras and Brazil use this form of non-verbal communication.
Argentina
In this country, artists have
many freedom to express their imagination on the wall through the streets. Graffiti
is not banned in Buenos Aires. Some people can use this non-verbal
communication expression as a form to express their disagreement with the local
government in a pacific way. They draw many jungles, animals, humans, and other
things. Furthermore, graffiti is used to make sightseeing around Buenos Aires
and the meaning of each picture or wall is explained to the tourist.
Colombia
Colombia is a country very
impacted by the war, drug traffic and terrorism. Bogota is its capital and according
to Tom in the reading, he said that is one of the safest cities in Latin
America (I do not agree with him) and as a consequences of its violence periods
people express their pain and disagreements on the walls, specially the first
one. In many walls around the colonial
downtown or important streets in Bogota, you can see pain images that show the non-conformism
with the state and claim about the people rights.
Honduras
Honduras is a country which has
fought with violence for several years. One artist express the pain of the citizens
painting on streets, but this kind of non-verbal communication is considered a
crime in Honduras, specifically in its capital, Tegucigalpa. People who paint
on street cover their face because they do not want to be discovered by the
authorities. And also these painters use nicknames as form to hide from the
government. Finally, graffiti is also used as a form to put “propagandas” or
slogans on the streets.
Brazil
Brazil is a country in which has
always been present the corruption and other problems. Graffiti art is banned
and illegal there. Many visitors each year come to different countries to see
the amazing art used on walls.
All the above can be compared with Northern
Africa. There are countries as Egypt in which exist problems seems to Latin
America, for example corruption, political problems and poverty and the people
in these different cultures (Asia and America) protest in different ways, but
the main reason is protest against the state. In conclusion, all these kind of
expression as Blogs and Graffiti indicate the freedom of expression of each ones.
I think that this is an interesting post, I totally agree with you. Many of the reasons why people express their feelings and imagination through this art is the corruption and the government policies.
